Glitch tossed and turned in his sleep. He'd been having the same dream for days now.
He walked towards a white room. Through the window on the door he could see a young woman with hopelessly tangled long black hair, sitting on a chair and kneading a small piece of clay in her hands. As he reached the door a nurse stops him.
"I'm sorry Mr. Ambrose but I think it's best if you didn't visit her right now. She's having a bad day." Bad day was said in a different way then most would use it, it meant she was crazier today.
"Look, I haven't been in to see her since two days ago, I owe her a visit. So if you don't mind...." He said, glaring at the nurse. She sighed and unlocked the door for him.
He walked in and grabbed a chair, pulling it up beside the girl who hadn't looked up yet. He sat down and just looked at her for a second.
"Hello Cadence." He said softly. She twisted her head to stare at him with one gray eye through her mess of hair.
"Hello 'Brose." She replied before looking back at the bit of clay. "They let me play with clay today, they trust I won't eat it. You weren't here yesterday." She said evenly. He could see how she was worse today. Her voice held no emotion.
"I was caught up in my work, I'm very sorry." He said. She shrugged.
" 's all right." She said quietly. Suddenly her head perked up and she stared into the distance, as if listening to someone talk. She turned to look at him. "You're not coming tomorrow." She said with some finality. He nodded.
"I need to speak with the queen tomorrow." She leaned close and whispered.
"The Sunseeder." It wasn't even a question. He just nodded. "You won't be here again." She said, looking back at her clay, but she just stared at it.
"Yes I will, the day after. Promise." He said, looking confused. She just shook her head.
"Noooo," She said slowly. Her head perked up and she looked at him. "you'll forget, you'll forget everything." She looked at her clay, almost sadly. "You'll forget me." He grabbed her hands.
"Never. I'll never forget you." He promised. She looked at him with a blank look on her face.
"You will, you will. Maybe that's better." She looked distracted again.
"No I won't, I swear." But she just shook her head as she muttered softly and tears formed in her eyes. She cried out as she grabbed her head. The bit of clay fell to the floor.
Ambrose reached for her and hugged her tight, her head under his chin.
"Don't cry my dear one, don't cry. It's okay, I'll see you again."
"Of co-course you will." She said as she sobbed a little, tears rolling down her cheeks as she held her head. "Never said you wouldn't. Just not here." She pulled away and stared blankly at the ceiling for a second, as though she just noticed it. Her mouth was hanging open and her eyes were empty. Ambrose sadly laid a hand on her forearm.
"I'm so sorry Cady-Bear. I'm sorry I haven't been able to help you." Suddenly her face was full of fear and she leaped backwards in her chair, knocking it over in the process and slammed back against the wall. Hands clamped onto either side of her head she started screaming.
"What is it Cady? What is it?" Ambrose asked as he ran for her, terrified as she howled in fear and pain.
"SHUT UP! LEAVE ME BE! YOU'RE NOT REAL YOU'RE NOT REAL!" She screamed at some unknown assailant. "STOP STOP STOP!" She screamed as she smacked the back her head repeatedly into the wall behind her.
Nurses ran in and grabbed at her arms, pulling her away from the wall. Her rants continued as they forced her to the ground. She got a hand free and reached out to Ambrose.
'HELP ME AMBROSE! PLEASE! OH GOD PLEASE!" She screamed to him as he stood back, his eyes filling with tears as they sedated her. She fell limp and they carried her out of the room. When they all left he collapsed onto a chair hid his face in his hands as he sobbed. He wiped at his face and looked down. The bit of clay she had been playing with lay on the floor. It had some word molded in it. He picked it up and could see, in Cadence's handwriting the word 'Danger'.
